Message on reverse (ink) reads: On Whit Monday I went over Christ's Hospital - the Blue Coal School - where you uncle Fred was at school. then it was in london: now it has been moved into the country. Best wishes for your birthday. I didn't get back last night until nrly 10. Love from us all. Your Uncle Cliff.' NB Christ's Hospital is and was a school, and was never a hospital in a medical sense. It began as a home ('hospital') for foundling children in 1552.
